If you ride a motorcycle then suddenly the rain is dropping then your was getting inside your phone or If you have dropped your phone in the toilet, sink, washing machine, in a pool or at the beach or even have spilled your favorite drink on it - the iphone 6s and plus series generally doesn't take to water like a duck.
Important - whether you will attempt this yourself or take it to a technician, you MUST ensure that you do not try to turn it on or plug it in. Doing so, sure can do further damage.
Second - the ideal situation is to disconnect the battery asap. Even when the battery is connected there is a small amount of charge going through the phone which can cause a further short of a component.
