About the Organizer
The Royal Entomological Society (RES) is devoted to the study of insects. Its aims are to disseminate information about insects and improve communication between entomologists.
The society was founded in 1833 as the Entomological Society of London. It had many antecedents beginning with the Society of Entomologists of London.
About the Competition
To promote learning and engagement in the science, natural history, and conservation of insects, The Royal Entomological Society (RES) has organized the insect photography competition as part of its program of activities.
Competition Categories
There are three competition categories:
18 and over (with themes of Insect behavior, Insects in their environment, and Insect portraits).
Under 18s.
Smartphone (open to both Over 18s and Under 18s).
Eligibility Criteria
Entries are invited from amateur photographers of all ages and nationalities and the competition is free to enter.
Who is not eligible?
Professional artists (those who make money from their photographs beyond potential prize funds);
Individuals (or their immediate families) directly involved in the Competition’s organization.
RES staff members.
Those who work as RES volunteers or work for Insect Week partners are not excluded if they are not directly involved in the Competition’s organization.
Prizes
£750 for the 1st prize winner in the 18 and over Category;
£500 for the 2nd prize winner in the 18 and over Category;
£450 for the 1st prize winner in the Under 18 Category; and
£250 for the 2nd prize winner in the Under 18 Category.
The four winning images will be published in the RES’s bulletin Antenna, and its editors may also publish one or more of the runner-up images in addition to those of the prize winners.

Interested participants can submit their entries via this link.
Submission Deadline
October 31, 2023.
Submission Requirements
Entrants may submit up to three entries. If the RES deems the entrant has exceeded the image entry limit, through multiple accounts or by any other means, the RES may disqualify the entrant from the Competition.
Photographs must be submitted as jpg, jpeg, or png files.
