1990 Camaro RS 305 TBI Valves
I was doing the valve seals on the camaro and just took a few seconds of video. Nothing to see really, just put here to remind me that I actually did this, and that it wasn't just a bad dream. Total the job took about 12 hours, and I had a helper cleaning parts and turning the crank over while I was setting the valves. (Thanks John - back under the car troll) It was around 35° each morning we started and even rained the second morning. While rustling around the main loom I snapped off the two tiny brittle vacuum lines that run to the HVAC controls inside the car, so those are going to get replaced and re-routed. I found 2 clogged oil journals on the passenger side head and not a single exhaust valve had an umbrella upon dis-assembly. Some mechanics don't use them as they believe the extra oil cools the hotter exhaust valve or some reason. I put them back in as they should be. I used the "rope trick" to hold the valves up. I felt alot safer and not rushed using this method as opposed to air. With air I also feared if a valves seal was accidentally broken it may drop, causing a full head removal. You really only have to feed in about 18" of rope (I used nylon ski rope) then compress it against the valves with the piston. Upon reassembly I set all valves to 0 lash then gave them 1/2 additional turn to load the lifters. She got new plugs and valve cover gaskets and a thorough cleaning on a few parts while they were off.
