George Frederic Handel - Sarabande (Keyboard Suite in D Minor, HWV 437: IV)
Composed by Handel for solo keyboard between 1703 and 1706, the work is also referred to as Suite de pièces Vol. 2 No. 4.
Sarabande is a solemn, stately melody with a measured pace and rich, dignified harmonies. The piece's simplicity contrasts and compliments it's emotional depth, making it a popular work found in many film scores and adaptations.
Handel's Sarabande was featured prominently in the Stanley Kubrick film "Barry Lyndon", as well as utilized by Japanese composer/conductor Joe Hisaishi in the film score soundtrack to Nausicaa of the Valley of the Wind in the piece "Nausicaä Requiem".
