The Linux operating system is a free alternative alternative to Microsoft Windows the Mac OS. Many of the modern-day distributions (versions) of Linux have been designed to be very user-friendly and have a user interface that even the "average person" would find easy to use.
Five of the most popular distributions of Linux are Mint, Ubuntu, Mageia, Fedora, and openSUSE. This video will high-lite these five versions:
1. Mint
Linux Mint is a version of the operating system that is focused on a modern user interface that is similar to a Windows or Mac based operating system.
2. Ubuntu
Ubuntu is the most popular free operating system on the market today. It is used by roughly 20 million people which is a huge number for a free operating system.
3. Mageia
Mageia was started in 2010 as an offshoot of another form of Linux, Mandriva Linux. While, Mageia is one of the newer Linux distributions, it is gaining popularity and has a loyal following.
4. Fedora
Fedora is a feature packed Linux distribution that is geared towards high performance computers and requires a lot of computing power.
5. OpenSUSE
OpenSUSE is one of the more popular Linux distributions mainly due to the fact that it has been around for a long time. The first SUSE distribution was released in 1994, making it one of the oldest Linux distributions around.
