Her resistance was such that she was injected with the same dose of tranquilizer used to castrate a horse. At the same time, a curb chain (torcedor, arcial) was placed on her muzzle, and one ear was held as a means of physical restraint. However, it was not possible to clip her because she lashed out and fractured one of her owner's ribs.
After 15 minutes of handling by Guillón, the mare allowed herself to be clipped. For the benefit of the human, the risk of further rib fractures is eliminated, and for the benefit of the mare, she will no longer need to be sedated, have curb chains applied, or have her ears held to subdue her.
