In this video Abdul sir will going to discuss about 4 confusing words protoplast, protoplasm, cytoplasm and cytosol from the chapter body Cell Biology class11.
Protoplasm = Cytoplasm +Nucleas
Cytoplasm =Protoplasmic part without Nucleas
Cytosol is the matrix of cytoplasm. Cell organelles are situated on this matrix.
Cytoplasm: The Difference Between Cytoplasm and Protoplasm are confusing because the meaning they convey are often interchanged. It is now known that the “cell” comprises of many organelles (Ribosomes, Endoplasmic reticulum etc) which perform specific functions. These cells organelles are engulfed in a gel like substance called Cytosol. This is collectively known as cytoplasm. But it doesn’t include the nucleus.
Protoplasm: A protoplasm on the other hand, includes the cytoplasm + the nucleus. Therefore, cytoplasm is part of the protoplasm. The other thing to note is that the term “Protoplasm” is no longer technically used and is considered obsolete in modern biology. The term was used in the 1800s and described a number of things over the course of a century. The term is now mostly accepted a general term for cytoplasm.
The cytoplasm is the inner content of the cell membrane, which is separated from the nucleus. It includes cytosol, organelles, and inclusions while cytosol is a soft and sticky, semi-transparent fluid in which various cell organelles are suspended. In other words cytosol is that part of cytoplasm that does not include the part of cytoplasm that is found inside organelles.
The cytoplasm along with the cellular organelles is called protoplasm i.e.,
protoplasm = Cytoplasm + nucleus.
It does not include cell membrane or cell wall. Protoplast is the living part of cell and does not include the cell wall. Protoplast= cell membrane + cytoplasm + nucleus
