In this video we build another dial up server. Instead of using Linux and a Linksys PAP2T, we use Windows XP and a Cisco SPA112. It is a fairly simple operation, but it appears to be less reliable versus the Linux solution. I’ve had to reboot computers and the SPA112 quite a few times. I also had some DNS issues, but it could’ve been general Windows 98 problems lurking.
Not all modems are compatible with this configuration. I strongly suggest using a hardware modem. The external U.S. Robotics 56K modems appear to be the best option. Soft modems and Winmodems are hit or miss.
