Aerosmith Live at Ambassador Theatre (not Kiel) St. Louis, MO 9-18-1975
Aerosmith at Ambassador Theater, St. Louis, MO on September 18, 1975 during their Toys In The Attic Tour. (Correction: The download and some tour lists say this was at Kiel Auditorium but it turns out it was not-there is a review in the St. Louis Dispatch and the promoter’s poster.) Ted Nugent & The Amboy Dukes opened the show. The Ambassador was a 3,000 capacity beautiful old palace style theater. This soundboard recording is clear and Steven does some interesting changes to lyrics (on purpose!) and is kind of "talky" and amusing. Train Kept A-Rollin' is a standout here with a long drum solo in the middle-one of their best, if not their best, covers.
The St. Louis Dispatch review by John S. Cullinane was fairly positive. St. Louis was a new market which is evident by his saying, “The five-man band had no apparent weaknesses and could be on the verge of something great if it could find its own sound. It probably will.” AS had been playing large and standard arenas, civic centers and coliseums prior to this. The next Rocks Tour ‘76 they played at Kiel Auditorium, a 9300 capacity. I think they had already found their own sound. Get Your Wings was the verge, Toys cemented that, in my opinion. Cullinane was impressed by Steven’s “raspy” range and moving around the stage “like a pro” and wielding his microphone “like a war lance.”
The Toys In The Attic album was released April 8, 1975 on the Columbia label. They began touring on March 25, 1975 until the very end of the year with some time off in October. Toys was very successful and produced by Jack Douglas. The album peaked at #11 on September 13, 1975. These songs are from their first three albums: self-titled Aerosmith (1973), Get Your Wings (1974) and TITA (1975).
