Let’s face it. Industrial agriculture is not just making the soils and waterways unhealthy. It’s hurting us as well. As systems unravel we need to help farmers to adapt, so that societies can also adapt.
Bekandze farm is a place of learning. A place where local farmers come to share their knowledge, share their experiences and skills, and even to share their seeds.
It's a demonstration farm for regenerative agricultural techniques, where local experts from all over Bali help farmers build resilient farming systems through organics, permaculture and agroforestry.
This is practical adaptation. Building resilience literally from the ground up. Learning to adapt to climate change. Learning to reduce dependence on fossil fuels and the harmful approaches of industrial agriculture.
At Bekandze Farm, growing healing is our aim. That’s the healing between each other, nature and the divine.
In our recent organic farmer training, I was surprised that people came from all over Bali. Some driving many hours to participate. But we are only a small and self funded initiative. I realised then that we need additional help to provide free training and support for smallholders in Indonesia to switch their methods.
