History
The village of Campo Belo was elevated to the category of city by means of Provincial Law 3.196 of September 23rd. 1884.[13] In the administrative division of 1911, the municipality had five districts: Campo Belo, Cristais, Nossa Senhora das Candeias, Porto de Mendes and Santana do Jacaré. Since the publication of State Law 2,764, on December 30, 1962, the municipality has been constituted by two districts: Campo Belo and Porto dos Mendes.[14]
Economy
The economy is varied; Campo Belo has stood out in recent years as a center for textile industries, with several companies in this sector. In agriculture, coffee, corn, beans and rice stand out; in livestock, practically all products derived from cattle are very important, such as milk (dairies), meat (slaughterhouses) and leather (tanneries). Basic industry and the mining sector are other prominent segments, the latter due to the presence of granite, clay and limestone. The ceramic industry also has an important presence in the economy. The service sector is quite diverse, with large stores, appliance chains, bakeries, schools, and colleges. More information can be found on the municipality's website.

Campo Belo features:
The best sanitary landfill among the municipalities near Lake Furnas, and also with selective waste collection done by a cooperative;
