Watercolor paper I am usually using ranges from 240 to 300 g/m2 (usually Fabriano). This method that I picked up from the fabulous Shelley Prior (link down below) works well for both painting process (although the paper is still going to buckle, but much less, than with other methods of fixing it) and, what's more important sometimes, after the work is done - the paper will stay straight when you finish and you will not have to iron it or do anything else to straighten it!
I hope this helps! Have fun!
