Hey, everyone, I am David Stockton, and this year, I'll be speaking at PHP World. I've had the privilege of speaking every year at PHP World and I'm really looking forward to this year.

A quick bit about me - I am the VP of Technology at a software company in Denver called i3logix. I lead a few teams of developers who are building a number of applications. We have software for the random and pre-employment drug testing industry, another application that helps in the in-home health care provider area, doing medical billing, scheduling, credentialing and authorizations. For the past 3 years and a bit, I've been working on an application that allows voters to opt-in for notifications via text, email and voice calls letting them know where their mail-in ballots are in the process from being printed, mailed to the voter, received back and finally accepted or rejected by the election division. It gives voters a way to ensure their votes count and to have some recourse if their ballot was lost in the mail or was rejected for some reason.

This application has given me a good deal of experience that I'll be drawing on for my talks at PHP World. First, I'll be giving a tutorial on how to build APIs using Apigility. This will be a hands-on session. By the end of it, we'll have built a number of working APIs and you'll have a better idea of what it means to build a RESTful API and how Apigility can help speed up this process and help you build consistent and powerful APIs.

Secondly, I'll be giving another talk called "Phone calls and SMS from PHP". This talk will help you understand what sort of functionality you can build into your applications that will let you make phones ring and buzz. In my ballot tracking software, we send loads of texts and make thousands of phone calls to let voters know what's happening with their ballots. I'll show you how we do that and what it takes to make your applications interact with telephones, both incoming and outgoing.

As I said, I'm pretty excited about PHP World. It's been a great conference and each year it gets better. It brings together people from all sorts of different frameworks and platforms in one place to share what they are doing and learn from each other. It's a great place to catch up with old friends and make new ones, and I hope you'll join us this year and that I'll get to meet you.

I hope I'll see you in November!
