The tweaks that I made to the Defender Ramp deck are that it has switched from having Kaervek's Torch being the primary burn spell to having Rolling Thunder do the job, which means that an additional Mountain had to go into the deck in place of a Forest. The second is that white has no mainboard presence at all, making land search choices that much easier. However, I still kept a single Plains in because of sideboard Circle of Protection: Red (because it's that good and because Burn and Kiln Fiend Combo are such things here).

Anyway, how do you beat a deck that can get ridiculously high amounts of life? Why, milling them, of course! That had to be the sideboard strategy, and it worked like a charm when he didn't get the combo of Midnight Guard and Presence of Gond. Speaking of which, I can neither confirm nor deny that I am currenty making a Modern deck with that very combo in it as well. (^_^)

The decklist, as best I can remember, is as follows:
Creatures
• 4 Vine Trellis
• 4 Overgrown Battlement
• 4 Axebane Guardian
• 4 Gatecreeper Vine
• 4 Vent Sentinel
• 2 Stalwart Shield-Bearers
Enchantments
• 4 Abundant Growth
• 2 Frog's Tongue
Sorcery
• 4 Commune with Nature
• 4 Kaervek's Torch
• 4 Search for Tomorrow
Lands
• 17 Forests
• 1 Island
• 1 Mountain
• 1 Plains
Sideboard
• 4 Circle of Protection: Red
• 4 Doorkeeper
• 4 Naturalize (which should be Gleeful Sabotage)
• 2 Rolling Thunder
• 1 Wildheart Invoker
