Welcome to this course on day trading. Let’s suppose you bought stocks of Boeing, an airline company. After the market closed, you heard the news of a worldwide pandemic. In response, the governments of various countries imposed travel restrictions on their citizens.

On the next trading day, Boeing stock price fell, and you made a significant loss on your position. Let’s take another scenario where you shorted corn futures.
After the market closed, the weather department predicted that monsoon would be good this year.
This is positive news for most of the agricultural commodities.
The next trading day, corn prices rose and you lost money.
To avoid such overnight risks and to capitalise on frequent and small price movements, day trading strategies are an apt choice. As you might have inferred, day trading is buying and selling of financial instruments, often multiple times during the day, without carrying any open position to the next day.

In this course, you will learn quantitative techniques and a systematic trading approach to become a skilled day trader. We will teach you a spectrum of different trading strategy paradigms including momentum day trading strategies, scalping strategy and high-frequency trading.
You will learn to create and backtest these strategies. Backtesting is the process of testing your trading strategy on historical data over a period of time.
But why is backtesting required? Backtesting helps you to analyse the risks and evaluate the performance of the strategy.

You can tweak and optimise various parameters during backtesting and build confidence about the success of the strategy. After backtesting, you can do paper trading. And when everything works well, you can do live trading. This course will provide you a step by step guide on how to connect your strategy with a broker and implement it in the live market.
The course gives you in-depth knowledge of all the concepts and helps you to practise them in Python. We use Python to teach you these concepts because it provides simple and efficient handling of data structures.
Also it has multiple libraries such as Pandas, TA-Lib that allow developing hassle free trading strategies. If you are new to Python, you can refer to the Python basics section in the course to get familiar with pandas dataframe, data visualisation and data importing.

The strategy concepts and theories taught in the course are independent of Python codes. You can still implement those concepts in your trading. If you are not familiar with Python, you might have to work a little harder to implement these concepts, by coding them in another language.
If you wish to learn Python as well as day trading, then this is the perfect place for you. Let us see why.
We have taught all the topics in a detailed and simple manner through interactive exercises, animated videos and Jupyter Notebooks. Coding in Python is taught in a hands-on manner, where we will give you hints and scaffolding and help you code on your own.
This way you build skills to write your own strategies and backtest it. At the end of the course, you will be provided with an installation guide and downloadable codes.
You can set up everything on your system and work with your own data sets. If you have any doubts or queries at the time of implementation, you can post them on the Quantra community page, where traders and quants get together. Feel free to answer other’s queries as well! So let’s get started to capitalize on frequent and small price movements and avoid long-term ups and downs in the market.

By doing this course, you not only learn about what a quantitative trading strategy looks like but also find new strategies that you can implement. All it takes is 4 hours to learn and apply something new to your trading. Good luck!
