Originally designed/conceived by Norwegian Ole Dokka as part of a Facebook group project, the Luna Dude was meant to be a nod to the Vostok Scuba Dude. Originally the watch was to be completed by the Vostok Chistopol Watch Factory, however the collaboration between Ole Dokka, Meranom and Vostok stalled, resulting in all the parts required (dial, hand set, bezel and strap) being manufactured but the Vostok factory not wanting to provide the final assembly. The parts were made available to purchase separately from Meranom as a DIY opportunity, requiring the case and movement and assembly to be supplied by the buyer.
Ole Dokka has since progressed with the Cosmodiver watch project through a Norwegian microbrand, Micromilspec, offering a similar dial but omitting the sub dial with second hand as well as the GMT hand and 24 hour bezel. This "Official" Cosmodiver does not utilise any Russian parts and is offered at a much higher price point.
