While this may not be the preferred method of many, I believe you can reach your genetic chest potential just by getting good at push ups, dips, and the countless variations thereof. This is how I built my chest, and this is how you should build your chest if you don't have access to basic equipment like a squat rack, bench, some plates, barbells, dumbells machines, and cables.
Dips and Push Ups are extremely versatile and convenient, and even though they may seem rather rudimentary, both of these exercises are complete chest builders and develop phenomenal pressing strength in an athletic way. You can really do them anywhere and still get a productive chest workout in, although with dips you will need somewhere to anchor both hands on, which is still a lot easier (and cheaper) to find / make compared to getting access to a bench press. With the endless variations of these two exercises, you can and particularly bias both heads of the pecs depending on which variation you choose. The fact that there are so many variations, more specifically with the push up, allows you to keep your workout fresh and remain injury free in the long run due to less overuse. I've yet to see anyone get injured on push ups and dips yet not only due to the amount of variations but also because form mastery on these exercises is a lot easier. These movements feel lot more natural than pressing from a bench / fixed position because the scapula is not limited and is given space to move freely, which not only helps with lessening the chances of a shoulder injury but also helps with strengthening the shoulder girdle.
You're also not spinning your wheels in a sense, since the path to getting good at these exercises is pretty straightforward.
As long as you are doing them and increasing your numbers over time, whether that be in weight or reps, your chest is bound to get big, especially with the weighted dip, where cheating is virtually impossible.
Get strong at push ups and dips and watch your chest gains blow up.
