In today's video we explore my Olive & Fig trees growing in the ground here in my UK garden.
Both trees suffered for years, incurring stunted growth as I believed pot grown plants would be healthier and easier to care for. I was wrong. Having picked up both trees around 2013-14 the olive didn't do too bad in a pot for a few years. But by 2020 it had been stunted for at least 2 years. It went in the ground in spring 2020 & has grown significantly more year upon year since planting.
The fig tree has hardly grown since buying all those years ago. It was imported from Italy I believe and sulked for years, however even after acclimatization it refused to grow more than a couple of cm's and leaves each year. Rather than killing it, in the autumn of 2022 I decided to give it one last chance. Planting it in the wooded area of the garden when it was in a beautiful yellow fall colour. It subsequently spent the whole spring & summer growing more stem & leaves than it ever has before.
The moral of the story? Plant your trees! They will thank you for it. They don't want to be stunted in the ground.
