With its 560 hectares of vineyards, the Ahr is not only one of the smallest wine-growing regions, but also the northernmost in western Germany.

The combination of steep slopes along the river valley and sun-baked rocks creates a Mediterranean microclimate, which is particularly ideal for red wine cultivation. But a visit to this "red wine paradise" is worthwhile not only for its red wines; the 35-kilometer-long Red Wine Trail offers an up-close experience of the Ahr and its romantic charm.
