Yay!! Thanks for watching! THE BEST IS YET TO COME!!!
I'm not a Valedictorian; I just auditioned and got to speak at graduation.
If you told me three years ago that I would give a speech at graduation, I wouldn't believe you. To this day, I still can't believe that I was given that opportunity. Basically, just audition for things because you never know you would get them unless you try. I'm not someone who gets the most perfect test scores or is the most popular person at school or is the nicest person in the world or is the best essay writer or the best public speaker. But I still tried and to my surprise, I got it! So don't ever believe "I can't do this, I can't do that," because if I can pass the scary audition to give a graduation speech, you can accomplish your dreams too!
Here's my speech!! I obviously changed some things....
Hi everyone. I'm Nadia, with a very long last name. If you’ve always wondered, it’s Chanthaphuang. I’m also known as the hot wings girl…. Ya know, from the spirit bowl.
Looking back, high school makes me feel bittersweet.
First.... It was freshman year. Back then, we were all so young and excited to live the high school life. We were so excited to be chargers at corner canyon, home to the best football team in the state, the most talented performing arts, the fastest runners, incredible academic achievers, and so much more. Little did we know, we would become the highest ranking traditional high school in the nation, according to US News and World Report.
Next came sophomore year.... Thank goodness we weren't babies anymore. We were able to take more AP classes, and some of us were able to drive.
But then came COVID. It hit us so suddenly; we never saw it coming. There were so many things that we all took for granted. Like waking up every morning to learn in a classroom. I have to admit, I actually missed it.
Junior year.... we learned to live in this new normal. And on top of all the hard classes, ACT prep, and random online days, it felt like the end of the pandemic was far into the future.
But as time went by, we found a light at the end of the tunnel, a light we are living in now.
Senior year. They told us that this year would be the best, so make it count.
And we did.
All of the dances, performances, and sports finally came back, and we made the most out of them. We saw value in the interactions we had with each other. We treasured the small things in life. What a thrill to be back in the stadium again, crowded and cheering, with a million voices shouting, “ooh ahh ahh ahh you wish you were a charger.”
It's as if maybe COVID was supposed to happen. Of course it was terrible, but the lessons we learned from it were so powerful. We became stronger, smarter, and better than before.
In life, we are going to face many hardships. At times, we may feel like our lives are crumbling, but if we keep charging forward, the best is yet to come. After every struggle, there awaits a beautiful blessing.
Now chargers, we stand in unison for the very last time, all about to embark on an incredible journey. Whatever direction you're headed, good luck. Corner Canyon is made up of the most talented, amazing people. Eleanor Roosevelt said, "the future belongs to those who believe in the beauty of their dreams." And with those dreams, chargers, you will all change the world.
Congratulations class of 2022 and take the reins in your next chapter of life. The very best is yet to come. Thank you.
