Why did Soviet tank crews cut off their tank barrels?
When Soviet tank guns became unusable, soldiers were in no hurry to repair them—instead, they simply sawed off the barrels. Without the bulky gun, the tank became maneuverable and was used to evacuate the wounded directly from the battlefield.
