Sonoff has released an updated version of its Zigbee smart water valve — the Hydro One — and while it looks almost identical to the previous model, there are some important internal upgrades that could make a real difference in long-term reliability and smart home integration.

In this video, I take a hands-on look at the device, go through the unboxing, installation, and setup process, and test it with Zigbee2MQTT. I also explore its automation features, water usage tracking, and how it could be used for more than just irrigation.

While some of the more advanced features appear to be tied to Sonoff’s own ecosystem, there’s still plenty of flexibility when using it with Home Assistant and Zigbee2MQTT.

If you’re building out a smart irrigation system or looking to add water monitoring into your smart home setup, this might be worth a closer look.
