360 Video Jasper Lake BWCA #2 Island Stop for R&R
As we made our way around the south western part of Jasper Lake (to return to our campground) we stopped at this island for a rest and to eat and hydrate. The "island" isn't, in fact, an actual island but an outcropping of land that (from one side of it) looked like an island to us. The far cove I mention as possible portage to Kingfisher Lake is NOT on the side of the land we were on - in fact, it is on the opposite side of that campground up in the northwestern corner of the lake.
You'll notice the lake of many mature trees around Jasper - that's due to a large fire that raged through this area of the BWCA severel years ago - this made finding a bear hang tree, as well as tie offs for tarps and tent, difficult.
I mention in this video that the weather is decent - actually, on our way back to our camp, we got dumped on pretty well by a frontal system that pulled into the area. After this video, we had a solid couple of days rain that dampened our spirits and made us just call the rest of the trip and begin the long haul back to the outfitter. Although we were prepared with the necessary clothing to deal with the wet weather, we had a hard time staying dry in and around the campsite.
