Halil Rıfatpaşa people had to use these stairs you see to go down Yalı stereet in 1900's
There was 58 meters or 155 steps between 2 district.
People were calling it 155-step ladder.These ladders were combining Halil Rıfatpaşa which is up above with Yalı Caddesi below.
Another name for the stairs was the Davidas staircase
This name was coming from the family which they live where the stairs begin.
One day, Grand Devidas falls from stairs and breaked his foot.
Nesim Levi was living in the biggest house where the stairs end. Nesim Levi plans to make an elevator here after this incident He brings Italian and French masters Construction finished in 1907. That's exactly 110 years ago
Coastline and Halil Rifat Paşa districts make comfortable with the start o serve of the elevator.
The income obtained is used for the Jewish hospital in the region.
In 1942 the elevator which changed hands and operated by some operators. It goes on for a while,but then it closes for some reason...

Restored in 1985 and 1993. It takes currently stativation after including Dario Moreno street
