Challenge Others and Allow Yourself to be Challenged

We've created an atmosphere of silencing people whose opinions we believe to be misinformation, but let me ask you this. If we're silencing people we disagree with, by what system are we filtering new information? I'll tell you. By blind obedience to those who have also been charged with telling us what is and is not misinformation. In other words, we've given the government and big business the power to control the TRUTH. Power corrupts and absolute power corrupts absolutely.
It shouldn't matter if what they're telling us is the truth or not. It should only matter that we are no longer in control of the truth ourselves. We used to be able to debate the truth and whom ever had the better argument would win. No there's no debate. It's just whatever they say. This is not good.
I've heard this quite a bit lately. Freedom of speech is not freedom of lies. But we can't know for sure what the lies are if we don't allow and encourage an open dialogue.
