Hello, friends! Today, per a viewer request from Abby Houston which I was very grateful to receive, we're playing Selesnya Cats, my best attempt to make a competitive cats tribal deck in Standard. Weirdly enough, this was actually one of the most challenging decks that I've had to build for the channel--there were so many possible directions to go in despite the "cats" parameter, because there are just so many cats in the format! I didn't even realize how many there were until I started building.
I limited myself to green-white in order to have a better mana base, but I've seen a number of compelling Naya versions as well. Besides the tempo advantage of two vs. three colors, I really wanted to make use of Flower//Flourish, a wonderful Selesnya split card that allows you to fix your mana early on and pump up your creatures for a big attack later. Also, despite being in two colors we manage to have access to both Kaheera and Lurrus, which means we tend to have a lot to do all game.
The last thing I'll mention is that the beasts were a recent inclusion in the deck, but I felt the need to add them just for the raw power they provide. Kaheera allows for them, and although they're not technically cats I would say that Questing Beast is cat-like enough and Lovestruck Beast is just plain good enough to include.
I'd love to hear your thoughts on this deck! Also, be sure to subscribe to the channel if you like what you see :)
