In Part 4 of A ‘Brief’ Design, I take you through the final steps of turning a digital 3D prototype into a physical garment. This video focuses on sewing the underwear and testing its fit, addressing common challenges like elastic stretching during sewing and making adjustments to achieve a better fit.
The outcome of a garment is always dependent on the fabric being used, the body the garment is made for, and the pattern that gets cut. This series was an exploration of all those factors, using CLO 3D to assist with simulation and development. While CLO 3D offers an efficient way to visualize and refine designs before production, transitioning to a physical garment can reveal issues that weren’t apparent in the digital model. I’ll share what worked, what didn’t, and how I approached these hurdles.
This video is for anyone interested in how digital tools like CLO 3D fit into real-world production workflows as well as home sewing applications. It’s a grounded look at the process, aimed at helping designers, students, and sewists create garments with more confidence and efficiency. Whether you’re here for tips on sewing, insights into fitting, or the realities of blending digital and physical design, this video has something for you.
