The Dark Side of Dubai was produced as part of the "Stop Human Trafficking" exhibition held in London in November/December 2023 by the Send Them Home campaign. The video features testimony from sex trafficking survivors rescued by the campaign and interviews with the Director General of NAPTIP Nigeria, Professor Fatim Waziri-Azi and Angus Thomas, founder of Send Them Home.

Send Them Home was set up in 2019 by Angus Thomas after a chance encounter in Dubai with a young Nigerian woman who had been trafficked for sexual exploitation to the UAE from Benin City, Edo State, Nigeria. Send Them Home rescues and repatriates Nigerian sex trafficking victims from the United Arab Emirates and has opened many criminal cases with NAPTIP.

The UAE government refuses to acknowledge the scale of the country's sex trafficking problem as evidenced by the low number of prosecutions. Just 14 sex trafficking cases were prosecuted in 2022 according to the US State Department Trafficking in Person Report 2023.
