Aytsemnik
Aytsemnik was a young female commander in the year 1126 AD. She was one of many women who held important positions in the great city of Ani: The city of 1001 churches, in historic Armenia. What makes the city great was not its grand architecture or its wealth, but its progressive society. Aytsemnik and the men & women of that great city constantly fought off aggressors and invaders. Protecting their beloved city to the very end.
In the 12th century, the city of Ani was progressive enough to have women as bankers, merchants and warrior generals.
This was truly an amazing episode to work on. Very inspiring for me. Over 30 Illustrations were created for Aytsemnik. Countless hours of work with multiple sketches, writing, editing and voice over as well as research. I hope you enjoy watching this, as much as I enjoyed making it!

I also wanted to include this article I came upon during my research, which I thought was very interesting. Before Armenia was called Armenia, the land of Armen or Ar, it was known as the kingdom of Urartu. The Urartians were the ancestors of the Armenians. This article discusses the excavation of an Urartian warrior woman's grave from the 9th century BC, in present day Armenia. I thought this fit well with the theme of this episode, the connection of a warrior woman from the 9th century BC all the way to 1126 AD.
