In this video, we'll study what harmonics are and what loads generate them. We'll look at the concept of linear and nonlinear loads. I'll introduce the basic tool for harmonic analysis: the Fast Fourier Transform. This allows power quality analyzers to decompose signals into their fundamental component and harmonics. We'll see how to measure each harmonic and also two parameters that will help us gain a broader perspective: THD (Total Harmonic Distortion) and TDD (Total Demand Distortion). We'll use the EN50160 and IEEE 519 standards to set limits for these parameters. Finally, we'll see how to use the Fluke 435 SII analyzer for harmonic analysis.
