St. John's 2024 Mummer's Parade
Alas the Sony HD Handycam is retired, this is the first parade that was 100% filmed in 4K. I know I wanted to keep that camera going, but having phones on a little handystick makes filming much easier while marching. Mummering has a long history in Newfoundland, I would go out mummering myself at home.
During Christmas, people dressed up in silly clothes and covered faces would visit people's homes and entertain the residents with dancing and music. After the residents guess everyone's identities, the mummers would be rewarded with treats, alcoholic beverages, and purity syrup.
In small communities like the one I am from, this was the closest thing to a pub-crawl you could get to since there are no bars.
