Dana Strum and DÉTENTE
For those just discovering DÉTENTE there is always a certain shock that Dana Strum produced Recognize No Authority. Ross knew Dana through his neighbor and hair stylist Anne. Initially no one except Ross wanted Dana, who was producing the Vinnie Vincent Debut at the time. Recognize No Authority certainly would have been a different album without him, we rehearsed with him a few weeks and focused on the song structures, stripping out some riffs adding more hanging notes, and trying to bring out the best of each song. As a bass player, it was nice to have a bass player producing who would push it upfront as a integral part of the overall sound.
We learned a lot recording RNA, so maybe an interesting choice, but in the end a pretty good one.
