In this video we'll take a quick side-step from our learning about distributions to discuss ways that social science - and especially psychology - often overlooks some issues with the concept of "normal". Specifically, we'll talk about 5 key issues:
1) Normal does not mean 'moral'.
2) Normal does not mean 'stable and unchanging'.
3) Normal does not mean 'what we see most often'.
4) "Pop culture" often misinterprets normal distributions.
5) The norm is dependent on the sample, population, and time of any given study.
