Eid al-Adha, also known as the Festival of Sacrifice, is one of the most significant Islamic holidays. It commemorates the willingness of Prophet Ibrahim (Abraham) to sacrifice his son in obedience to God. Muslims around the world celebrate this festival by performing the Qurbani (sacrifice) of an animal, usually a sheep, goat, or camel. The meat from the sacrifice is distributed among family, friends, and those in need. The holiday also includes prayers, feasts, and acts of charity. Eid al-Adha occurs annually at the end of Hajj, the pilgrimage to Mecca, which is one of the Five Pillars of Islam.
