Excel Vlookup formulas easy use Or how to use vlookup excel formula by Knowledge Center
VLOOKUP is Excel function that Facilitate user to find or search and retrieve a specific cell’s content from one column & use that info in another location to retrieve specific data. As you think, the “V” stands for vertical and relies on looking up data from the leftmost column of a lookup table.
The look-up colomn could be on same work-sheet you are viewing or an-other with-in your workbook spreadsheet. The function vlookup needs a common field or key and four arguments. The function allows you to specify whether to use an exact match "False" or approximate match "True".
I have a work sheet with Data Tab which have four columns i.e Name, Employee ID, Age, Salary. and on the next I have some names of employees and I want to Know the Employees ID of these employees. If we do it manually, it takes too much time and chance of errors. So We use vlookup formula for this purpose.
Detail is as under:
=vlookup(I7,B7:E22,2,False)
I7---(Name Column in Formula section)
B7:E22----(Selection area, where we want to find the I7(Name))
2---indicates the column number we want to retrieve that is Employee ID Column Number 2)
False---It denotes that we want Exact Match..
