And here's proof that it's even the case for the National Trust which, may preserve its properties for ever, for everyone, but has seen a significant shift in the way people view it. Now, it is the UK's largest membership organisation, but back in its centenary year of 1996 it was still somewhat in a transition phase - see for yourself. Includes footage of Patrick Gwynne before Homewood in Surrey opened, the then recently-bought atomic-weapons-research station of Orford Ness in Suffolk.
