The Birth of Switzerland: Told Like Never Before!
More than 700 years ago, three communities decided, amid majestic mountains and deep lakes, to change their destiny.
The people no longer wanted to suffer foreign oppression. They decided to free themselves from occupation. It was the birth of an alliance for freedom.
United by their common desire for autonomy, they formed a pact to jointly defend their countries and their traditions.
In secret, representatives of the cantons of Uri, Schwiz, and Unterwalden swore to support each other against the threat of the Habsburgs.
Over the years, other cities and regions decided to join the pact: Lucerne, Zug, Zurich... the Confederation grew.
Their vision was to form a democratic state in which important decisions were made through democratic voting. This system gives citizens the power to actively contribute to the formation of laws and policies, ensuring that their voices are heard through regular referendums and initiatives, thus directly influencing the future of their nation.

At the end of the 18th century, Switzerland was occupied by Napoleon's troops. The Confederation was dissolved, and the Helvetic Republic was imposed.
However, this model did not fit the Swiss spirit of autonomy and community. People yearned for a system that reflected their values and traditions. Soon, the Confederation was reinstated with new principles that emphasized decentralization, direct democracy, and respect for cantonal identities, thus laying the foundation for modern Switzerland.
Napoleon was subsequently exiled to the island of Elba and, after an attempted return to Paris, to the island of Saint Helena.
In 1848, Switzerland took a major step forward. A new Constitution was approved, and the modern federal state as we know it today was born.
Since then, Switzerland has been a symbol of neutrality, direct democracy, and coexistence in diversity.
The last canton to join was Jura in 1978, born out of a deep desire to preserve its identity and culture.
Today, Switzerland is famous for its exquisite cheeses, such as the flavorful Gruyère, the iconic Emmentaler with its characteristic holes, the aromatic Appenzeller, and the robust Tilsiter, all of which reflect the country's rich culinary heritage.
Switzerland is also renowned for its exquisite chocolates, offering a variety of delicious treats that delight chocolate lovers around the world.
Switzerland is also known for its precision watches, highly sought-after and appreciated worldwide for their craftsmanship and elegance.
Every August 1st, Switzerland commemorates this oath on the Rütli. More than an anniversary... it is a symbol of unity.
From the Rütli Oath to today, Switzerland remains a model of freedom, respect, and community. The Swiss Confederation.
