Ken Burns popularized a version of the pan and zoom technique that many appreciate. His technique was normally used with historic photographs. But you can also use it with video clips. It works best if the camera is relatively stable and does not do a great deal of pan and zoom in the raw footage. The best results will happen with a higher resolution than we use here. But hopefully this will be helpful.
