Deeplocal, Google Magenta, and The Flaming Lips teamed up to create an AI-powered performance for the headline concert at Google I/O 2019, enabling the band and the crowd to create a one-of-a-kind musical composition together.
We powered this first-of-its-kind concert experience with Fruit Genie, a real-time, intelligent musical instrument that combines Magenta’s Piano Genie model with a physical interface—in this case, fruit. To get the audience involved, we created giant inflatables filled with sensors that signaled the software when touched, adding notes to the song. Anyone in the crowd could bat the inflatables and contribute to the composition in real time.
The experience gave Google the opportunity to showcase Google AI and the Magenta team’s innovative work to an audience of developers in an unforgettable way.
