Falling in the No-Fall Zone - Pic de Comapedrosa Andorra Ski Touring
The Canal de l'Alt (or Canal del Canuto) is considered the Pyrenees longest couloir, with 900 vertical meters. It starts right at the summit of Pic de Comapedrosa at 2.945 meters and plummets almost straight down to a plateau at 2.100 meters.
Ever since I heard about it, I wanted to ski it, and now was the time. We had an amazing day out (even if the snow coverage was low and we had to walk with our skis on our backs for 45 minutes). Unfortunately, the conditions in the lower part of the couloir were pretty horrible (hard, variable snow) and in one jump turn, one of my skis broke the surface crust and made me tumble down. I got really lucky, as I clinged on to a rock before anything worse happened... Not really proud of the descent, accidents happen but all in all a big adventure! I want to ski it in the right conditions someday.
I was using the K2 Dispatch 101 skis, with Scarpa 4Quattro XT boots.
