COMM 3312 - Travel Writing and Blogging (Let's Navigate the Course) 🛳
This is an open-educational resources course and we will access course materials from the university library databases. We WILL NOT require students to purchase additional course books, etc.
Course Description: (3 Credits) - This undergraduate course examines writing about travel and tourist destinations for different media. The course examines how traveling writing and blogging is done from different perspectives and examines the ethical and practical issues that guide the process.
At the conclusion of the course, the student will be able to...
A. Knowledge Outcomes (Weekly Assignments and Readings)
Demonstrate strong observation and description skills for travel experiences.
Develop a personal storytelling technique.
Learn how to partner with media organizations and PR agencies.
Demonstrate information gathering and interviewing skills.
B. Skill Outcomes
Develop audio podcast material for travel destinations.
Develop a strategy for travel photography and video.
Analyze the effectiveness of long-form video vs. short-form video.
Submit a pitch for a local newspaper editor.
Write a travel story for submission.
Develop a strategy for integrating AI in travel writing.
Usage of Artificial Intelligence - The use of AI is encouraged in this course, but students are required to disclose which AI tool was utilized and the percentage of the assignment that was created with AI tools. Assignment submissions (or ideas) created with the help of AI will be graded with a higher level of rigor.
