Words Have Power: Countering Hate Speech and Protecting Freedom of Expression (Long version)
“Words Have Power” warns us about the potential consequences of hate speech in today’s online age, reflecting on the lessons of the past, while underscoring the value of including communities of diverse backgrounds in multistakeholder efforts to counter it and promote peace.
This video was screened at the “International Conference on Digital Platform Governance: Building a Global Forum of Networks,” held on 18 and 19 June 2024, marking the International Day for Countering Hate Speech, commemorated annually on 18 June.
Produced under the UNESCO EU-funded project “Social Media 4 Peace,” it includes the testimonies of partners who highlight challenges and solutions from their respective countries in countering hate speech, while promoting freedom of expression:
