Tips number 1: use an ND filter to set the proper shutter speed. Showing how fast a car is moving is the key ingredient to create exciting shots.
Tips number 2: use a variety of focal length in order to fill the frame. I recommend bringing with you a telephone lens and at least a monopod to get that tasty close-up shots.
And tips number 3: look for foreground subjects to improve the dynamic of the shots. Expecially if you are using a gimbal, make sure to place some elements between the camera and your subject. This trick will improve the dynamic of the frames 10 times!
