I just wanted to dedicate this song to the families of the students from the University of California, Santa Barbara who were murdered. Let us have a moment of silence for George Chen, Katie Cooper, Veronika Weiss, Cheng Yuan Hong, Christopher Michael-Martinez, and Weihan Wan.
In a video made the day before he murdered those students, Elliot Rodger said: "Girls gave their affection and sex and love to other men, but never to me. I am 22, and I am still a virgin. I have never even kissed a girl. I have been through college for 2 & 1 / 2 years, more than that actually, and I am still a virgin. It has been very torturous."
We can all try to assume as to why and what made him do this. But truth be told, our world is full of lonely people. There are lonely people all around us who may seem to have it all together, but are secretly very unhappy, ashamed to admit that they feel alone.
I just wish that I had an opportunity to have met Elliot. Like him, I've never had a girlfriend, never kissed a girl, and am a virgin. And like him, I wanted love. But in my brokenness, I met grace and found love. Grace is linked inseparably to love.
The grace of our Heavenly Father is the only source of unconditional, unfailing, relentless, and furious love. Grace is Abba's unmerited favor toward us, and the basis on which we continue to experience indescribable love. Abba's love brings true happiness and changes us inside and out. How completely satisfying to turn from our loneliness to Abba's infinite love.
