VW bug custom interior console plate and floor mats
I am getting close to finishing up the interior of the custom VW bug. All I have left to do is create the center console plate and some custom floor mats. Again I used a template to get the dimensions of the console plate and then transferred the design to some 16 gauge aluminum sheeting. After a bunch of bending and trimming I now have a nice looking center console. I also created the removable floor mats from some high grade automotive carpeting. The problem with this carpet is that it shreds horribly when just cut with scissors, so I cut it with a hot knife. Holding the knife over a propane torch and then sliding it through the carpet a few inches at a time worked great, of course making sure that the knife was flame free before touching it to the carpeting. I glued the carpets to some spiked vinyl rug runner and then had the edges stitched together.
