4th Annual Wisconsin Regional Invitational Casting Competition
University of Northern Iowa Metal Casting Center students are participating in the 4th Annual Wisconsin Regional Invitational Casting Competition at the 79th AFS's Wisconsin Regional Foundry Conference taking place February 8-10, 2017.
This year, the student chapter worked on a casting for Neenah Foundry, a manufacturer of municipal castings. They were contacted by an architectural firm from San Fransisco in casting ornamental tree grates for a building presently being built. Since the order was rather small for Neenah, the company asked the students to create a design using 3D additive mold manufacturing to deliver the castings to the customer by March. The students designed, modeled, manufactured, and cast the ductile iron tree casting and will be entering their design for this year's casting competition.
