Currently, the majority of computer processors fall into one of these two categories. 64-bit processors are exponentially more powerful than their 32-bit counterparts, because they can hold and process so much more information.
Thus, a 32-bit number has 2^32 possible addresses, or 4,294,967,296. Conversely, a 64-bit number’s capacity is 2^64, or 18,446,744,073,709,551,616. Comparing ~4 billion bytes (about 4 gigabytes) to ~16 quintillion bytes (about 16 billion gigabytes)
The major differences between 32bit and 64bit OS
1. A 32 bit OS supports maximum RAM of 4GB. 32-bit versions of Windows are limited to 4GB of RAM. 64-bit versions are theoretically capable of supporting a little over 16 billion GBs of RAM.
2.Under 32-bit architecture Windows is limited to assigning 2GB of memory to an application.
3.64-bit processor enjoys additional protections which is not available to 32-bit users.
4. Updated software come under 64 bit platform. So to take the benefit of the updated software 64 bit is essential.
