Number theory, a field of math that was considered somewhat useless, suddenly became indispensable in the XX century. Today it is in the core of cryptography, the backbone of all communication on Earth. Without it, internet would not be possible, nor would we be able to safely send emails, pay online or have private conversations on the phone. In this lecture Rakhim talks about the fascinating history of ciphers, and about an ingenious in its simplicity idea behind modern cryptography.
