The video goes into detail but I'll explain it here as well. So basically I noticed in some races I've been doing that when I would opt to do a drift off of a ramp instead of jumping, then land into another drift, I would sometimes get a boost as the new drift started. Initially I was thinking it was based off of how far you fell, and that you were building up hang-time turbo even if you didn't jump. However, I finally figured out that what's actually happening is that the game is using its last known hang-time value to determine if you should get a boost when you meet the criteria mentioned earlier (including how much of a boost).
In other words, if you do a jump (preferably one that gives you hang-time turbo in this case) and go into a drift as you land (i.e. you're holding jump and left/right while landing), the game will keep that hang-time value stored until you either drop your drift or jump again. If you hold your drift and go airborne without jumping, then let go of and re-hold the jump button while holding left/right to go into another drift, you will get a boost when you land based off of the hang-time reading from the jump leading into the first drift (and this can be repeated for as long as you follow the criteria). This could prove to be very useful for a track like Tiny Arena if anyone wants to mess around with it and see what kind of potential it has for improving times. Enjoy! ^_^
