The history of the Korean people can be seen as beginning in Manchuria. Gojoseon was a country in Manchuria. Our historical kingdoms of Goguryeo, Buyeo, and Balhae also existed in Manchuria.
But why isn't Manchuria within our current territory? Why did the Korean people settle on the Korean Peninsula, south of Manchuria?
I will examine this process geographically. The first question that arises is, "Why were so many different ethnic groups living in Manchuria?" Our ancestors, Gojoseon, Buyeo, and Goguryeo, were settled people based on agricultural culture. But there were other ethnic groups in Manchuria, such as the Xianbei, Wuhuan, and Khitan, who were nomadic herders. And yet another group of people in Manchuria, the Tungusic peoples of the Yilu, Suxin, Malgal, and Jurchen, were farmers, hunters, and nomads.
Why are there so many different peoples in the region called 'Manchuria'? Today, let's delve a little deeper into that story. :)
